Why spend a year in Taiwan teaching English?
In Taiwan one person every six minutes dies and goes to hell. In a land of 22,000,000 people, a half million babies are aborted every year and men and woman are bound by a fear they cannot name. In a country where the pursuit of wealth has dulled the longing of heart to know God, how will the light of the glorious gospel ever shine?
Decades ago many faithful missionaries labored in Taiwan, trying to bring the love of Christ to this Buddhist nation. While about 1% of Taiwan's population is now Christian, the church is mostly confined to large cities like Taipei. Many country towns have never been penetrated by the gospel.
These areas are very difficult to reach. Jobs are scarce and without a job it is difficult to acquire a long term visa, and the people are passionately resistant to foreigners trying to convert them. It may seem almost impossible to reach these people groups, but through the fervent prayers and sacrifice of many people and much hard work, God has opened a door for our team of 18 young people to minister in these areas.
Our Team has received a special invitation from the government of Taiwan to teach English and character to the Children in rural mountain elementary schools. We live just like the people in these areas and will be able to share the gospel in an inoffensive way using the relationships we will make.
God is doing wonderful things in Taiwan; however the work there is still very difficult. The island is predominately Buddhist with a lot of animistic practices and idol worship. The people are bound in fear, especially the fear of death. They worry about what will happen after they die. Our goal is to bring the message of God's love because we know that "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear" (1 Jo 4:18). Would you join in praying with us that God would help our team to show perfect love to the people of Taiwan? Pray in the following ways
- That God would prepare the hearts of Taiwanese people to hear the gospel.
- That God would unite the members of our team so we can give a accurate view of the body of Christ.
- That God would give us grace to respond to trials in a way which would bring the most glory to Christ.
